WILD INDIGO Baptisia tinctoria
Liquid extract of fresh, non-woody root.
- Actions: Stimulating, antiseptic alterative which especially influences the glandular and
lymphatic systems. Enhances anabolic and catabolic metabolism. Stimulant to liver and
bowels. A specific remedy in atonic conditions associated with weak vitality, feeble capillary
circulation, fetid excretions, and sepsis with tendency towards breakdown, ulceration, and
necrosis of tissue. Especially indicated in conditions showing fullness of tissue with dusky
leaden hue, fetor and tendency to sloughing or ulceration.
Uses: Chronic, deep-seated infections. Toxemia and septicemia (“blood poisoning”) with
associated fetid breath; fetid discharges of wounds, ulcerations or tumors, and of ears, nose,
vagina, bowels, etc.; eruptive fevers, and asthenic fevers with depressed vitality (especially
typhoid); adverse reactions to inoculations; enlarged, congested lymph nodes; mononucleosis;
boils; mouth sores and spongy gums; septic sore throat, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and quinsy;
inflammation of nasal membranes with ulceration and discharge; intestinal toxemia or dysentery
with putrid stools; gastric or duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis and ulcerations of Peyer's patches;
fetid leukorrhea, and ulcerated or eroded cervix or os; inflamed breasts; indolent surface ulcers
with bluish edges; gangrene.
- Dose: Take 30 to 40 drops, 3 to 4 times per day for no longer than 6 weeks. Topically apply
full-strength extract if well tolerated, or dilute with 1 or 2 parts water. As a gargle, mix drops
in a little water and gargle several times per day.
- Cautions: Consult a qualified midwife or physician before taking during pregnancy. Lower
dosage or discontinue use if nausea or diarrhea occurs.
