BUCHU Agothosma betulina
Liquid extract of dried leaf.
- Actions: Stimulant, antiseptic, cleansing and tonic to the kidneys, bladder and mucous
membranes of the urinary tract. Mild diuretic action increases elimination of both watery
and solid constituents of urine. However, it moderates excessive activity of kidneys.
- Uses: Chronic, atonic diseases of the urinary system, or chronic irritation with discharge
(especially in the aged). Abnormally acid or muddy urine loaded with salts, with constant
desire to urinate but with little relief from the effort. Chronic cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis,
gonorrhea, pyuria (pus in urine) and gleet. Incontinence associated with prostate maladies.
- Dose: Take 30 to 60 drops in half-cup water, 2 to 4 times per day.
- Cautions:
Consult a qualified midwife or physician before taking during pregnancy. Do not
use in acute inflammation or infection of the urinary tract. Sensitive persons may experience
upset stomach; avoid taking on an empty stomach. Buchu can harmlessly impart its aroma to
the urine and render it dark in color.
